A whole system approach was adopted to optimize a residential pool filtering system. This project presents for the first time, the experimental measurements of the pool water quality (i.e., the chemical concentrations) and all energy-consuming components when operating the filtering system at low flow conditions.

Monitoring household energy and water usage can provide valuable insights into building performance and occupant behaviour. The monitoring of building parameters such as temperature, relative humidity and carbon dioxide levels can also be used to inform building management.

Research undertaken by the Cooperative Research Centre for Low Carbon Living (CRCLCL) has shown that current ‘top down’ education approaches aimed at changing consumer behaviours to adopt sustainable housing options (including concepts like net zero energy homes) have been largely ineffective.
This project builds on key findings of research conducted within the CRCLCL that communicating sustainability in a more mainstream way could significantly improve uptake of sustainable and energy efficient homes.

WGV is a 2.2ha residential infill development in White Gum Valley delivered by the Western Australian State Government Developer, LandCorp. Consisting of four multi-residential sites, one group housing site and 23 detached residential sites, WGV will eventually accommodate up to 100 dwellings and around 250 people. Civil works commenced at WGV in 2014, with construction of the first buildings starting later the same year. As of July 2019, WGV is approximately 60% built out and occupied.
