Urban mobility options have substantially increased in recent years, enabled by the widespread availability of smart device software Apps, geo-positioning technology, and the ease of electronic financial transactions. These options are likely to be supplemented soon by the rapidly advancing development of autonomous vehicles.
Parenting responsibilities in the context of children’s mobility have been subject to a substantial change over the last few decades. Children’s current activities and travel patterns are significantly different to the previous generations when they were at the same age. Today’s children are exposed to increased car use and are chauffeured for the majority of their trips.
Transformation of the motor vehicle fleet has been an important feature of the world’s peak car phenomenon. Very few urban transport studies have explored such important changes in large urban cities. Using an innovative green vehicle datasets constructed for 2009 and 2014, this paper investigates the ongoing change in urban private vehicle fleet efficiency (VFE) in Brisbane.
Public transport customer amenities cover a range of ancillary improvements which are not directly related to operations or service quantity but can enhance the quality of the passenger experience. Examples include information provision, passenger facilities, station/stop quality and personal security measures. While much research has determined the value that public transport users place on different types of amenities, there is little understanding of current practice in the use of customer amenity valuations.
An increasing number of jurisdictions are seeking new ways to manage the competing needs of different modes on increasingly congested road networks. Network Operations Planning (NOP) is becoming ‘best practice’ in managing multi-modal transport networks. This paper presents a critical review of the implementation of SmartRoads, an NOP framework developed by VicRoads. The aim of the research is to gain an understanding of the key factors that constrained and facilitated the implementation of SmartRoads.
